D-Sun® contains vitamin D, which is produced by the same process that takes place in the skin when we are exposed to the sun rays. D-Sun is served in small easy to swallow  capsules made from fish gelatin.

D-Sun contains 20 micro-grams of vitamin D3 per capsule. Vitamin D is a fat-soluble vitamin, and to ensure a good bio availability, the vitamin D in D-Sun® is bound to lecithin from sunflower oil.

Vitamin D contributes to the maintenance of normal bones, because vitamin D contributes to normal absorption / utilisation of calcium and phosphorus. Calcium is an important component of bones. Vitamin D also helps to ensure normal blood calcium levels.

Vitamin D also contributes to the normal function of the immune system and plays a role in the cell cycle. In addition, vitamin D contributes to the maintenance of normal teeth and normal muscle function.

The Sunshine-vitamin

In some parts of the world it is only possible to produce vitamin D in the skin during the summer, and this ability to produce vitamin D from sunlight decreases as we age. Other factors that also affect the formation of vitamin D are diet, skin type, clothing and whether you spend a lot of time indoors.

It is possible to incorporate a minor amount of Vitamin D in the diet. Vitamin D is found naturally in the fatty fish, fish liver oils, egg yolk, cheese and other fat-containing dairy products.

Since most people don’t get enough vitamin D through their diet, most health authorities worldwide recommend, that – particularly during the winter – it is beneficial to take vitamin D supplements.

There has in recent years been an increased focus on vitamin D, and recent research has determined that the vitamin has more beneficial effects than previously believed. Among researchers there is a high level of agreement, that the need for vitamin D seems to be higher than previously thought – i.e. official dosage recommendations have inceased over the past few years.

Health Authorities recommend that certain population groups, including pregnant women, the elderly and people who dress in covered clothing all the year round should  take a supplement of vitamin D.

D-Sun® is manufactured from saturated fat called lanolin, from sheep’s wool which is then irradiated with ultraviolet rays in the same spectrum as the sun’s rays. This forms the beneficial vitamin D3 in the same way as is appears in our skin when we are exposed to the sun’s rays.
