Essential fatty acids
The oil provides the body with the healthy Omega-3 fatty acids EPA and DHA in phospholipid form. OmniKrill® was the first product in Denmark to contain the healthy Omega-3 fatty acids in the phospholipid form, and the first product to offer this new generation of Omega-3 fatty acids, which have superior bio availability compared to traditional fatty acid forms.
EPA and DHA are essential fatty acids that must be supplemented to the body in the same manner as vitamins because the body cannot produce these essential building blocks itself.
The heart, brain and eyesight
The long-chain Omega-3 fatty acids EPA and DHA help the heart to function normally. Studies in healthy humans have shown that this beneficial effect on the heart depends on the dose. This effect is obtained with a daily intake of 250 mg of EPA and DHA (total). OmniKrill® also provides DHA to maintain normal vision and normal function of the brain. These beneficial effects are obtained with a daily intake of 250 mg of DHA. The Omega-3 fatty acid DHA is the most common fatty acid in the human brain, as much as 20% of all the fatty acids present in the brain is DHA.

Krill are an important component of the Antarctic ecosystem. A single krill can weigh up to two grams and can be up to five to ten years old. The Antarctic krill population overall by weight, is about 400 million tons thus making it the most common animals in the world measured by weight.
The Organisation The Commission for the Conservation of Antarctic Marine Living Resources (CCAMLR) monitors the catch of krill to ensure maintaining a sustainable population of Antarctic krill. The organization’s monitoring ensures that only a tiny portion of the stock is used for production of krill oil, as well as ensuring that the animals that feed on krill, are not affected by the harvesting of krill.

The amazing krill
The beneficial content of krill oil is due to the fact, that the krill has a unique fatty acid composition. It has in it a very high concentration of long-chain Omega-3 fatty acids (EPA and DHA) in the form of Omega-3 phospholipids, and this fatty acid composition is the reason for the krill’s amazing ability to survive in the harsh Antarctic waters. Omega-3 phospholipids ensures that the krill’s cells are kept very smooth, even in the freezing temperatures of the Antarctic water and this flexibility is necessary for all cells to function optimally – even human cells.
The smoothness of our cells is reflected in the high levels of the fatty acids, we get through our diet. The Krill feeds exclusively on algae; which has a high content of unsaturated omega-3 fatty acids, and therefore the krill’s cells are able to remain flexible, even in the Antarctic Ocean. This beneficial effect of omega-3 on the krill’s cells is the same beneficial effects that people benefit from when taking krill oil. The human cells consist largely of phospholipids, and it is precisely at the cellular level that the fatty acids have their effect.
OmniKrill® contains the original NKO® (Neptune Krill Oil), who at several points stand out compared to other products with krill oil.
The oil is gently made through a so-called cold-vacuum process; as a result the natural substances that are found in krill oil by nature is maintained. Especially EPA and DHA are maintained in their original and natural conditions.It is also important the naturally occurring fat-soluble ingredients such as the powerful antioxidant astaxanthin and vitamins A, D and E.are retained. This ensures that our krill oil in all aspects corresponds to the oil within in the free-swimming Arctic krill.
Studies indicate that the oil present in OmniKrill® is absorbed better than other products with krill oil.
It has the highest content of the antioxidant Astaxanthin – up to 7 times higher than other krill oils. This high content is the result of the gentle method of extraction of NKO® and there is no added Astaxanthin in the production of the oil.
The oil present in OmniKrill® has been tested in a series of well-designed human clinical studies that confirm a beneficial effect and effective bioavailability.
The red oil – naturally stable
It is the substance Astaxanthin (antioxidant) that gives krill oil is the characteristic red color, which we also know from many seafoods such as salmon, shrimp and lobster. Astaxanthin from Krill is unique because it is naturally found in a 100% esterified form, which means that it is absorbed directly into the body. Astaxanthin is related to the redness of the beta-carotene that is found in carrots and lycopene found in tomatoes.
The krill-oil present in OmniKrill® is extracted by a special, patented process that is very gentle and renders that krill oil has a much higher content of Astaxanthin compared to other krill-oils. Two capsules OmniKrill contains about 1000 mg astaxanthin.
Traditional fish oil normally has added antioxidants, for example in the form of vitamin E, in order to prevent rancidity, but this is not necessary in krill-oil. Astaxanthin is a natural antioxidant, which makes the oil stable and protects it against rancidity.
Dietary advice from the Food Administration
EPA and DHA are referred essential fatty acids to be supplied to the body, since the body cannot produce these essential building blocks.
The only way to dietary can get enough Omega-3 is by eating fish, because the long-chain Omega-3 fatty acids EPA and DHA found only in fish products. Food Administration recommends eating fish two times a week for his main meal or once a week for his main meal and almost every day as cold cuts. Vary the like between fatty fish, for example: salmon, herring and mackerel, and lean fish, for example: cod, tuna and plaice. In the course of a week, you need 200-300 g of fish. Krill oil constitutes a good supplement to your daily or weekly intake of fish.
Krill oil compared to fish oil
Krill oil differs from conventional fish oil on two main areas. First of all a large part of the Omega-3 fatty acids in the krill-oil are bound to phospholipids in contrast to traditional fish oil containing omega-3 fatty acids bound to triglycerides.
The latest research in Omega-3 has proven a particularly beneficial effect when taken in the form of krill oil Omega-3 phospholipids. The advantage of the Omega-3 phospholipids is that they are both water- and fat-soluble, so the body can absorb them directly from the intestine and utilise them much better and faster than Omega-3 triglycerides. Omega-3 bound in the triglycerides – as in ordinary fish oil – is only fat soluble and, therefore, the absorption is much more complex and depending on the enzymes in the stomach and intestine in order to happen efficiently. Studies confirm that the omega-3 fatty acids in OmniKrill is absorbed up to 50% better than compared to regular fish oil.
Furthermore, it is in the form of omega-3 phospholipids that Omega-3 (EPA and DHA) has the best effect in the body. The reason is that phospholipids are an substantial component of the body’s cells, and the supply of krill oil Omega-3 phospholipids are for this very reason particularly beneficial for the maintenance of the body’s many cells.
The second major difference between krill oil and fish oil is the content of natural antioxidants. Krill oil has, as explained, in contrast to conventional fish oil, a natural high content of anti-oxidants to protect the oil against oxidation and rancidity. This content also means that krill oil has an antioxidative effect that is 47 times that of normal fish oil. This is mainly due to the content of the antioxidant Astaxanthin.
