Nordic Nutraceuticals guide to Veganuary - A Healthier You for 2022

This January, Nordic Nutraceuticals are delighted to be supporting Veganuary, the yearly campaign where people are encouraged to think about what they are eating and how it may impact on their health, and also on their environment.

Whether you are thinking of changing your diet and lifestyle completely or wanting just to make small changes to benefit your health, we will try to help and inspire you with tips and diet solutions for a healthier you in 2022.

Over the next 6 weeks we will give you lots of facts and ideas that may help you with your quest, whether you want to go vegan or just want to increase more plant-based foods in your diet, we have the solutions to eating well..

Laying the foundations for success - 5 ideas to help you get started:

1. Take time to organise your dietary plans; you will make poor choices if you have not researched food alternatives or made sure all your basic dietary needs are being met. Don't forget, a plant-based diet that relies on fast food or takeaways is just as unhealthy as a meat-based diet with these poor choices.

2. If you are a meat eater and you want to increase more plant-based foods into your dietary regime, do this over a number of weeks. Go for a meat-free day once a week and start tasting different alternatives to meat or fish. Don't forget you will not like everything you taste; write down your favourites, building up your own collection of ingredients and recipes that you know you can enjoy.

3. The majority of your meals should have an abundance of colour on them. Sometimes called 'eating the rainbow', each different colour represents different nutrients, vitamins, healthy fats, minerals and fibre. Eating a complete range of these colours will help your overall health and energy.

4. Hydration is a very basic essential for any health plan. Make sure you are well hydrated throughout the day: drinking small amounts regularly helps with most bodily functions. Water, herbal / fruit teas, juices, smoothies and, of course, plenty of water-rich fruit and vegetables.

5. When changing to a healthier diet, sometimes you will get cravings for sugary foods or snacks, so this is why any major changes to your diet must be made slowly. Sometimes called 'crowding', if your diet relies on cheap sugars for energy and your diet is poor, introducing healthier options one at a time over a number of weeks will give you the chance of cutting back on your sugar fix over time.
